Bleeding from the nose, swelling on the face and change in skin color are also symptoms of black fungus, know why its symptoms are different in patients

Cases of black fungus are increasing in many states of the country. Most of the cases are being reported in corona patients. This fungus is affecting different parts of the body. Experts say, from the symptoms, it can be understood that in which part of the body the infection of black fungus has occurred. Know from AIIMS Director Dr. Randeep Guleria which type of patients are more prone to black fungus and which symptoms indicate infection in which part of the body...

Experts say, depending on which part of the body has been infected with the black fungus, the symptoms are visible. The infection of black fungus ie mucarmyosis occurs in two ways.

1- Rhino-orbital Cerebral Mucormycosis: When this fungus is infected through inhalation, the nose, eyes, mouth are infected. From here the infection can also reach the brain. In such cases, symptoms like headache, watery nose, nose ache, bleeding from the nose, swelling of the face, change in skin color are seen.

2- Pulmonary mucormycosis: When the particles of black fungus present in the air reach the respiratory system, then they directly affect the lungs. When this happens, symptoms like fever, chest pain, coughing or coughing up blood are seen.

In some cases it reaches the stomach. As a result, it affects the stomach, skin and other parts of the body as well.

Dr. Randeep Singh Guleria, Director, AIIMS, says, cases of black fungus were initially coming to the fore in diabetic patients who had high blood sugar. But cancer patients taking chemotherapy are also at risk of this. Apart from this, patients taking immunosuppressant drugs that weaken the immune system are also in the risk zone.

Dr. Guleria says, its cases are increasing among corona patients. More than 20 black fungus cases have been reported in AIIMS.

Experts say, the type of medicines given during the treatment of corona reduces the number of lymphocytes in the body. These lymphocytes are part of the white blood cells that help fight diseases. When the number of lymphocytes in the body decreases, immunity decreases, as a result the risk of fungal infection increases. Therefore, cases of black fungus are coming up during the treatment of corona victims or after recovery.

Most of the fungi present in the environment reach our body through breath. If there is any kind of wound in the body or the body is burnt somewhere, then this infection can spread in the body from there as well. If it is not detected in the early stages, then eyesight can be lost or the part of the body in which these fungus has spread can rot.

This fungus can live anywhere in the environment, especially in the soil and decaying organic matter. For example, it is found in leaves, rotten wood and compost manure.
